Guwahati, 17 July : Lovlina Borgohain the first female boxer from Assam at the Olympics and the only athlet from Assam to qualify for Tokyo Olympics.
Lovlina has qualified in the 69Kg category Boxing event to represent India at Tokyo, along with the Indian Olympic Boxing team, Men's side includes world number one and Asian Games champion Amit Panghal (52kg), Manish Kaushik (63kg), Vikas Krishan (69kg), Ashish Kumar (75kg), and Satish Kumar (+91kg).
The women's squad comprises six-time world champion M C Mary Kom (51kg), Simranjit Kaur (60kg), Lovlina Borgohain (69kg), and Pooja Rani (75kg).
India's Boxing matches will start on July 24, 2021.

Lovlina has to undergo hard times due to pandemic and due to her mother's major illness in the month of February. But she has managed to maintain her regular training preparing for Olympics. And is in the World rank 3 in 69Kg category.
Today Lovlina along with the Indian Contingent left for Tokyo. To mark the special day for the Indian Team Contingent including our dear daughter of Assam “Boxer Lovlina Borgohain” departing for Tokyo Olympic 2020, Assam Olympic Association organized a celebratory event “Good Luck Lovlina, Good Luck Team India” R. G. Baruah Sports Complex, Nehru Stadium from 10:30 AM onwards today. Chef De Mission of Indian Contingent Shri Birendra Prasad Baishya, Everest Climber Anshu Jamsenpa, Swimmer Mithoo Baruah, Boxer Kalpana Choudhury, Cricketer Parag Das, Para Athlete Anyatam Rajkumar, Lawnballer Tania Choudhury, Swimmer Elvis Ali Hazarika and President of Adventure Tour Operator of Arunachal Pradesh Mr. Tsering Wange were present as the Guest of Honour of the event. Shri Lakhya Konwar, General Secretary of AOA mentioned that Team will definitely bring laurels to the country by winning in the Tokyo Olympic 2020. Along with AOA all others from Assam conveyed there best wishes to Lovlina to come out with flying colors at Tokyo.
